Empowering The Masses - Organization Social Media Policies Empowering The Masses Social Media Policy for Volunteers Most people now have some form of social media account, whether it is on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. We use social media across all our work at Empowering the Masses. We use it to raise awareness, to ask people to support our events and many other things. It is a great way of reaching lots of people and making sure they know about our work. We encourage the responsible use of social media and this policy is to set out what we expect from our volunteers when using social media. It is important to remember that we are all ambassadors for the charity and that social media is never private. This policy aims to: Give clear guidelines on what you can say about the charity Comply with legislation and protect you as a volunteer Help you draw a line between your private lives and your volunteering work Protect the charity against liability for the actions of volunteers Be clear about sensitive issues such as monitoring and explain how problems with inappropriate use will be addressed. Policy Statement We recognize that the internet provides unique opportunities to participate in interactive discussions and share information on particular topics relevant to the work of Empowering the Masses, using a wide variety of social media, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. This policy aims to protect anyone volunteering with us in any role and to encourage you to take responsibility for what you write, exercise good judgement and common sense. Who is covered by the policy? This policy covers volunteers. There is a separate policy for paid staff and consultants. Purpose of the policy This policy deals with the use of all forms of social media – including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram It applies to the use of social media for volunteering and personal purposes whether while volunteering or otherwise. The policy applies regardless of whether the social media is accessed using our IT facilities and equipment or equipment belonging to the volunteers If you are found to be in breach of this policy the Director of Engagement or Executive Director will have the right to address this You may be required to remove postings, which are deemed to constitute a breach of this policy. Personnel responsibility for implementing the policy The Director of Engagement has a responsibility for operating within the boundaries of this policy, ensuring that all volunteers understand the standards of behavior expected of them and taking action when behavior falls below this All volunteers are responsible for the success of this policy and should ensure that they take time to read and understand it. Any misuse of social media or questions regarding the content or application of this policy should be reported to the Director of Engagement, Volunteer Coordinator Any content, which raises a safeguarding concern, must be reported to the Director of Engagement in line with the reporting procedures outlined in Empowering the Masses Safeguarding Policy. Guidelines for responsible use of social media The following sections of the policy provide volunteers with common-sense guidelines and recommendations for using social media responsibly and safely. Volunteers must not post disparaging or defamatory statements about: Empowering the Masses ETM staff, our clients, volunteers, or people affected by PSP & CBD past or present Suppliers Other affiliates and stakeholders. Volunteers should also avoid social communications that might be misconstrued in a way that could damage our business reputation, even indirectly. You are personally responsible for what you communicate on social media – as part of your role or on personal sites. Remember that what you put on social media will be available to be read by anyone including colleagues, volunteers, future employers, and people you do not know for a long time. Keep this in mind when you post content. If in doubt, do not post it. If you plan to use a photograph or quote from someone on social media, you must obtain their consent first. Please do not tag anyone in photos on social media. This is because the person in the image may be vulnerable or under 18. There is no obligation for volunteers to link their personal social media to any Empowering the Masses social media account. Please do not set up a social media account, which represents a Empowering the Masses group before speaking to the Director of Engagement/Executive Director first. You are responsible for the privacy settings of any social media sites you use and should ensure they are set to the appropriate level if you wish to limit who can see your information. Remember that you must always respect confidentially and protect confidential information. You should be mindful of Data Protection issues, if in doubt speak to the Director of Engagement. Confidential information includes things such as unpublished details about our work, details of current projects, information held on our supporters, clients, staff, or volunteers. If you are uncertain or concerned about any post you are about to make, do not post it. Speak to the Director of Engagement first. Do not list your self or agency as a partner of Empowering the Masses if you do not have a partnership agreement in place. Empowering The Masses - Volunteer Guidelines for your volunteer guides. Empowering The Masses Volunteer Covid19 Guidelines Volunteers: Our work continues Empowering the Masses appreciates your services, and we will do our utmost to ensure that your volunteer experience is rewarding, productive and safe. We are committed to respecting your skills and individual needs within the limitation of these requirements. We ask that you treat each volunteer shift as you would a normal job, and your cooperation in following these guidelines: • Follow staff instruction and complete duties as assigned. Ask for help, as needed. Report possible hazards or unsafe activities to staff. Volunteers should arrive promptly and if leaving before the end of a shift must advise staff. Volunteer schedules are provided on a temporary basis and no long-term expectations or agreements exist. • Volunteers may be required to submit references. Anyone under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol will not be permitted to volunteer. • Wash hands before beginning your shift, after breaks, smoking or returning from the restroom. All Volunteers are always required to wear a mask. Mask must cover the nose and mouth. • Be safe. Use proper techniques when lifting things, using your legs to push upwards, keeping your back straight and body balanced. Solicit the help of another person to lift objects over 20 pounds. Ask for help if you need assistance. • Supplies or food of any kind may not be taken from the program without permission. Unauthorized possession will be considered stealing and will lead to immediate discontinuation of volunteering. • Be polite, pleasant, and enthusiastic at all times while working as a representative of our organization. Aggressive or pushy behavior and harassment of any kind is not tolerated by staff or volunteers. Any behavior intended to create discord or restricting volunteers or staff from working will not be tolerated. Report incidents immediately to the Executive Director. • 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are subject to limits or absolute prohibitions on engaging in political activities and risk loss of status as tax exempt status if violated. As a nonprofit organization we ask that you avoid becoming involved in any political discussions. • Youth volunteers under the age of 18 must have guardian permission in order to volunteer. Adult supervision may be required for youth volunteers under the age of 14. • All personal belongings, purses, backpacks, computers, etc., should be left in your vehicle. Empowering the Masses assumes no responsibility for damage to or loss of personal property of volunteers. Empowering The Masses is continuing to serve clients during the Covid-19 outbreak. To ensure the health and safety of clients, volunteers and staff, we implemented the following procedures: • Pantry clients stay in their cars and we bring groceries them. • To limit interactions between volunteers, clients and staff, we have created a “Drive-Up” Pantry. • Pantry clients will not enter the building but stay protected in their cars until they can pull up to a loading dock that opens onto Empowering The Masses’ front parking lot. • Clients pick up pre-packaged boxes containing a nutritious balance of food for each household member. To ensure the safety and health of our clients, volunteers and staff, we are: • Taking necessary measures to ensure all employees, visitors, and persons served who are experiencing any symptoms of illness stay home and avoid contact • Following recommendations from the CDC to help stop the spread of germs and have posted their guidelines in public areas as a reminder for those coming to Empowering The Masses • Asking volunteers to wash hands before and during the shift and volunteers interacting with clients to wear gloves • Making hand sanitizing stations available throughout the facility • Cleaning tools used during the volunteer shift after each shift • Frequently cleaning high touch surfaces • Having volunteers work inside packing boxes with a variety of nutritious foods We are also providing the following suggestions for all Empowering The Masses’ volunteers and staff: • If you feel ill, stay home and avoid exposing others • Frequently wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds • Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose and mouth • Avoid close contact with people who are sick • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash If you have: • A normal temperature, • Not been diagnosed with, or exposed to anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 (Coronavirus), • No reason to believe that you, someone in your home or others with whom you have close contact has been exposed to COVID-19 • None of the following symptoms: fever, dry cough, fatigue, shortness of breath • A desire to serve your community during this urgent need Then please fill out a volunteer application on our website Indiv idual Volunteer Youth Volunteer Group Volunteer We cannot operate without the time, talent, and passionate service of many volunteers. Founded in 2018 by Executive Director Tammy Johnson, ETM operates under the belief that Education + Advocacy = Empowerment . ETM addresses the social determinants of health (SDOH) by providing access to food, training, and essential services. Our CommUNITY Market serves over 600 families weekly, offering dignified food access and home delivery in partnership with DoorDash. Beyond immediate relief, ETM focuses on long-term solutions through workforce development, including certification programs in Phlebotomy and Community Health Work. Graduates often see significant income increases within just 12 weeks. We also host monthly Lunch & Learns to educate and engage the community around key issues impacting health and well-being. At ETM, we empower individuals to move from survival to stability—offering not just a handout, but a hand up. Mission The mission of Empowering the Masses is to empower South Dallas residents by addressing the social determinants of health through vocational training, core skills development, health advocacy, and providing access to nutritious food through our CommUNITY Market. Empowering The Masses is providing basic needs, educational services, and resources. It is our vision to help individuals gain self-worth and financial independence. Empowering The Masses 2024 Impact Statements More than 2,100 dedicated volunteers contributed their time and effort to further our mission. Throughout the year, we provided weekly groceries from our Drive-through Pantry to over 470 families, supporting their basic needs. Over 80 students earned certifications through our Phlebotomy & CHW training programs, advancing their careers in healthcare and community services. Our Lunch & Learn programs attracted around 250 attendees, fostering valuable community engagement. Active participation in our senior programs reached over 80 individuals, ensuring our older community members remain engaged and supported. We distributed Christmas gift baskets to more than 45 seniors and children, spreading joy during the holiday season. Through Findhelp.org referrals, we connected over 165 individuals with essential services and resources. Our Health & Wellness programs served over 50 individuals, providing them with crucial support for healthier living.
